The workplace is a diverse environment with employees, management and customers, creating a culture of business through individual values. The way these individual values converge under a company is important because it can create an atmosphere that is either difficult to be a part of, or ideal to be included in. The personal beliefs and values of employees must extend into the corporation, allowing them to reach goals and be productive by working well together under the umbrella of ethics. When discussing ethics in the workplace, the focus should be the area that lies between sin and virtue, and crime and punishment, an area where there is a common moral thread that allows the workplace to converge as a corporate culture.

The values of the employees must be in line with the values of the corporation that they work for, and in order to merge these two points, a code must exist that the employees feel attached to, that upholds their personal values about being a part of that corporation. Who the code protects and whether employee input is a part of that code are vital factors, as well as how the code is presented. Your code of conduct should uplift your employees and present them and your work place with integrity and honor, and it shouldn’t imply that your employees are likely to do things that your company prohibits. The way your code is presented to your employees is important because it adds to their value about what they do.

Workplace ethics should be upheld within the mission of your company. Your company’s mission is the driving force behind your employees desire to be proud to work in your establishment. An employee finds a major driving force for their motivation for enjoying their work as well as their desire to reaching goals of productivity to create success behind the mission of their company. The weight of your mission can actually create a callus feeling in employees and make it easier for them to do business without ethical consideration or conduct. Belief in your business as an important place that encourages growth and creates a positive impact of the economy is created through the ethics that are upheld in the workplace.

Putting a proper focus on the integrity of your company not only has an effect on the employees that work there, but it also creates an impact on customers who may or may not choose to do business with you. Customers will choose to take part in services or products that your company offers based on the practices that your businesses subscribes to and how well your code of conduct and mission speak to their needs. Putting proper emphasis on workplace ethics can only grow the integrity that your company already emits. Your employees will work for you with pride and your customers will also be proud to purchase products from you.
